Australia’s premier event on the canine calendar is back, with around 10,000 people and their dogs set to walk together for the RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk on Sunday May 22.
Residents of Goulburn Valley will be able to participate in a virtual challenge called Walk This May, for anyone who cannot attend a physical event.
Walk This May encourages participants to walk with their furry friend every day throughout the month of May, while raising funds from their community.
RSPCA Victoria chief executive Liz Walker said the virtual challenge was a way for people to get involved if they weren’t near one of the venues.
“There’s no better feeling than seeing your dog’s tail wag ready for a walk and you’ll love taking your best friend along to raise money for an important cause,” Dr Walker said.
“Plus, you’ll increase your step count and become active at the same time.”
Million Paws Walk events are held across the state, with the closest locations to Shepparton being Bendigo, Mansfield and Wangaratta.
“We know that people love their pets and that they make people’s lives better,” Dr. Walker said.
“There’s nothing better for people or their dogs than to go out for a walk.
“At Million Paws Walk, people not only do something good for themselves and their dogs, but they also help improve the lives of other animals.”
Dr Walker said Victoria’s fundraising target was $360,000, with every dollar raised through Million Paws Walk helping to fund the RSPCA’s work for vulnerable animals.
