Users around the world have noticed that from Amazon the virtual assistant Alexa seems to be experiencing technical difficulties.
According to Descent detector, Amazon and Alexa began experiencing a spike in issues around 11 a.m. Friday in the United Arab Emirates. Users around the world – including the UAE, UK and Europe – have reported a number of issues with the service.
Patchy coverage, devices showing offline, sluggish responses, and responses such as “Sorry, I’m having trouble. Please try again in a few moments,” have become widespread.
The malfunction has led to memes and social media posts, with users claiming they can’t turn off their alarm clocks, turn on their lights or ask the device to tell them the outside temperature.
This isn’t the first time there’s been an Alexa outage. The situation last occurred in December, although it was limited to parts of the United States. In 2018, another outage occurred around the world.
For those who rely on the wisdom of Alexa, the good news is that Amazon tends to overcome technical difficulties quite quickly. So it’s hopefully only a matter of time before people can start ordering their robot assistants to turn off the alarms and turn the lights back on.
