Puna Geothermal Venture will host a virtual community meeting

Puna Geothermal Venture, along with representatives from Hawaiʻi County and Hawaiian Electric, will host a virtual community town hall meeting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, to provide updates and answer questions.

PGV, a subsidiary of Ormat Technologies, has been back online since November 2020 and continues to ramp up.

“Prior to the lava flow, PGV provided 31% of the Island of Hawaii’s electricity needs. We are working to regain the output we had; we were producing 38 megawatts then and are now at 25 MW,” said Michael Kaleikini. , Ormat Senior Director, Hawaiian Affairs.

The public can participate in the January 12 meeting by clicking on a link on the PGV website. The link will become active when the meeting starts. The public can also submit questions in advance by clicking here.

“We remain committed to providing the public with information about what is happening at PGV and welcome community feedback,” Kaleikini said.

In addition to participating in virtual meetings, residents with questions or concerns can call 808-369-9094. Weekly project updates are posted online.

PGV holds regular quarterly community meetings. The meetings will take place on the second Wednesday of January, April, July and October of this year. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, meetings have been taking place virtually and will continue to take place until further notice.

“We hope that one day soon we will be able to resume in-person meetings,” Kaleikini said, “but as long as pandemic conditions remain, we will hold our meetings virtually.”

Written highlights and video recordings of past virtual community meetings are available online.
