Mayo Clinic to host virtual conference focused on dementia resources | Community

ROCHESTER, Minnesota – Anyone living with or next to someone with dementia knows how isolated it can be, so the Mayo Clinic is looking to offer support and resources at a virtual conference.

On Friday, the Mayo Clinic is partnering with AARP and the Alzheimer’s Foundation to host the Mayo Clinic Conference on Brain Health and Dementia.

The conference was previously known as the Meeting of the Minds but, after a year-long hiatus due to the pandemic, it has changed its name and gone virtual.

RN Jodi Melius says the conference is dedicated to improving the well-being of people with dementia and their care partners.

She explained: “A lot of people who are on this journey with dementia – can feel very isolated. There’s a lot of stigma around dementia in the community and that keeps people a bit lonely and not feeling connected. to others. There are so many programs and people working to break that stigma, to get people out of social isolation and to help people live well.”

The conference will include speakers and experts from the Mayo Clinic, AARP and the Alzheimer’s Association. They will discuss the latest research as well as practical considerations for those who experience cognitive challenges.

Melius added: “There is hope in research and there is hope in living well with this disease day to day as we wait for treatments and new knowledge about the disease.”

With more than 2,000 people already registered in nearly ten countries, the Mayo Clinic says the virtual conference is a chance to reconnect after more than a year of isolation.

“Now that we’ve been through the pandemic, all of us are really seeing how it’s affecting us,” Melius said. “So we’re just putting an exclamation point to find hope, find ways to live well, really enhance the experience and be together even in a virtual environment and make that as engaging as possible and share that message. “

The virtual conference is free for general registration and you can register by clicking on here.

It is scheduled to take place from 9:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. There will also be an optional workshop after the event.
