The tourism industry is now on the path to gradual recovery. And in a bid to boost tourism, Kerala has launched a virtual travel assistant on WhatsApp for tourism facilitation and information flow.
The virtual assistant – Maya – is a chat bot that will provide travelers with information on the latest updates on destinations, facilities, prerequisites, etc. The assistant was launched as part of using technology for traveler facilitation and will help all travelers looking for any type of information and assistance in the form of text or voice messages.

With the lifting of covid restrictions across the country, the travel and tourism sector is eyeing a recovery and will hopefully get back on its feet. And to provide this much-needed impetus, various governments have come up with strategies. Reportedly, this one-of-a-kind WhatsApp Chatbot was recently officially launched by the Minister of Tourism, PA Mohamed Riyas. The minister said the purpose of the bot is to enable travelers to get all the information they need and allow them a hassle-free travel experience in the state.

Maya is fully equipped to share all information about destinations, experiences, stay options as well as travel across the state. The bot can also share information regarding ecotourism, arts and culture hotspots, covid protocols of must-see places, visa information, weather updates as well as links to pages official state social media outlets.
