Disability Awareness Month virtual event

The Alachua County Office of Equal Opportunity and the City of Gainesville Office of Equity and Inclusion invite residents to celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which prohibits discrimination against persons with disabilities in all areas of public life. They are organizing a virtual round table on the theme of Employment on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The webinar is free, but attendees must register online.

Participants will learn about employment challenges, resources and opportunities for people with disabilities, and available advocacy and support services.

Presenters include representatives from Disability Rights Florida, the Center for Independent Living of North Central Florida, Vocational Rehabilitation, Goodwill Industries, and the University of Florida Disability Resource Center.

“This is a great opportunity for local employers and the public to learn more about the rights of people with disabilities, prohibitions against discriminatory workplace practices and efforts to advance equal opportunity in opportunities for people with disabilities,” said Jacqueline Chung, Alachua County Equal Opportunity Officer.
