On Tuesday, April 12, CBC and the Black Loyalist Heritage Center presented an exclusive virtual event featuring some of the cast and creative team from CBC’s hit series, The Porter.

Hosted by Nova Scotian filmmaker Juanita Peters, the evening featured live interviews, clips from the show and the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists.

Real porters Jack States and Winston Grosse, live from the Black Cultural Centre, shared stories of their time working the rails from Halifax to Montreal.

Guests included:

  • Arnold Pinnock – Creator and creator/executive producer, who also plays the character “Glenford” on The wearer.

  • Annmarie Morais — Showrunner/Creator/Executive Producer on The wearer (recently moved to New Brunswick).

  • Charlie Officer – Executive producer and director on The Porter.

  • Andrew Cromwell – Actor who plays the character “Steven” on The wearer. Andrew can trace his ancestry back to the Black Loyalists.

  • Winston Grosse and Jack States – real life porters from Nova Scotia, who worked on trains from Halifax to Montreal

  • Darlene CooperPresident of the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre, Sheburne, N.S.

The wearer is a CBC original series inspired by real events and set in the early 1920s.

The fictional drama follows train porters Junior and Zeke, nurse Marlene and performer Lucy as a tragedy in the community puts them all on starkly different paths to a better life – and on a direct collision course between them. with each other.
