Brookline to Host Virtual Event in Honor of MLK

BROOKLINE, MA – The Town of Brookline will celebrate the life and values ​​of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a free virtual event on Monday, January 17 at 3 p.m. ET.

The event, hosted by Brookline’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee and sponsored by the Brookline Community Foundation, will air on Brookline Interactive Group’s Civic Channel 3 on RCN and Comcast. It will also be available live on BIG’s online channel and recorded for later broadcast here.

The program will include Boston University professor Robert L. Tsai as keynote speaker, an original poetic performance by literary artist and author Regie Gibson, a poetry reading by Brookline Laureate Poet Jennifer C. Barber, and a video compilation of Remote Learning Academy students reading their winning submissions from a collaborative competition held in March 2020. There will also be inspiring music and lyrics from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On MLK Day, community members can also participate in a Brookline Day of Service virtual project at 11 a.m., where four panelists will share their own experiences as immigrants and participate in a conversation with Welcome’s Hadassah Margolis.
